Community Service/Mentoring

High School AVID Mentor

Since 2014, I have been mentoring for the AVID program at Thomas Jefferson High School through the Goodwill program.  Through this program, I help students prepare for the application process for employment, scholarships, and college. I work hands-on the prepare them for the professional world and engage with them as mentor and a friend.

What Avid Does

Simply, AVID trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

How Avid Works

AVID brings research‐based strategies and curriculum to educational institutions in elementarysecondary, and higher education. The AVID System annually provides more than 30,000 educators with training and methodologies that develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas throughout the entire campus, in what we call Schoolwide AVID.

As a result, policymakers and educators now consider AVID's mission to be an essential strategy for closing the achievement gap, making college access and success available to all students.

This has been a remarkable experience for me. I have had the chance to get to know some of the most delightful young people. I'm proud to say, all of my mentees have been accepted to colleges of their choice and we are currently working on the getting them the money to go through scholarships and grants. I couldn't be prouder.
